This website has been designed for a variety of users, students in forestry or languages, forest scientists, translators and interpreters as well as writers and editors in diverse media and policy makers.

Each of the five main sections: E-learning, Concept, Articles, T-Base and Tests, in the menu bar, has sub-headings with more specific information.

The use cases below will assist you when finding your way through the different features of the website.

Use Case 1 – A translator or interpreter wants to get a quick overview of the subject area and the technical vocabulary of forest health. A first look into the section CONCEPT presents a general view of the term relations and associated definitions including hyperlinks to the terminological database. The multilingual terminology database T-BASE, presents technical terms and definitions, synonyms and equivalents in the other working languages. The search function allows to find terms and definitions in one language or translations (equivalents) of the source term in another language (target language). An alphabetical list of all technical terms is available under LIST from the left-hand navigation in the T-Base. Additional information on mono and multilingual GLOSSARIES can be found in the ARTICLES section. The ANNOTATED TEXTS in the same section present the vocabulary in the technical context.

Use Case 2 – A forestry student prepares for an examination in the subject area of forest protection, and wants to study some technical terms in English. The ARTICLES section presents first a selection of general articles on the subject, and subsequently of expert articles in the selected language (English, French, Spanish, German). The photographs in the PHOTO GALLERY illustrate some of the pests subject of the study. The alphabetical LIST in the T-BASE allows to chose specific terms in the selected language. Further information, e.g. definitions and equivalent terms (translations) is obtained when clicking on a specific term. The knowledge gained can be tested in the multiple-choice tests in the TESTS section.

Use Case 3 – An editor writes an article on forest health and wants to look into the correct use of some technical terms. The ARTICLES section presents information on the subject area from general and expert articles. The use of the technical vocabulary can be examined from the T-BASE section by looking for the definitions of the technical terms.

Furthermore, the website provides a general search function on the right hand side. Take note also that when you click on a term under the heading CONCEPT bringing you into the T-BASE, the best way to get back into the initial section, will be to use the RETURN button.
