I am a student - is there a recommended way to make my way through?

If you are a forestry student we recommend you to start with the general articles section and proceed according to your needs and interest. If you are a future translator we additionally recommend the concept section as a reference point.

I am a professional - is there a recommended structure to follow?

If you are a forestry professional the searchable database and the expert articles section might be of particular interest. If you are a professional translater you might want to browse through the articles and build and test your terminology knowledge with the help of the concept section, the database (list view) and the multiple choice tests.

I need a translation for a term - where do I find it?
Go to the term database (T-Base) and search for your term translation.

I am not sure whether the foreign term I would like to use really means the same as the term I use in my language. Can the T-Base help me?
Yes, because most search results include a definition of the term which helps you to judge which term fits best in your context. To view this definition click on the search result.

I am interested in defintions and not so much in translations. Can the T-Base help me?
Yes you will be able to find definitions for many terms.

I like the T-Base features but it seems to be restricted to forest health. Is there a way to search for terms of other subject fields, e.g. ecology?
Yes, if there are no search results in the forest health database you will be asked whether you want to query the IUFRO SilvaTerm Database which contains forest terminology in 9 languages.

Searching for individual terms is useful but it would be even more useful to have a list of available terms. Does the T-Base provide this feature?
Yes, by clicking on "List" in the left-hand navigation of the T-Base search you will be able to view the list of available terms in the selected language.

I have come across/written a great article/definition. Are you interested in user contributions and feedback?
Yes, any contribtions (links, articles, definitions, etc.) and feedback are most welcome. Kindly follow the links above or contact us at office(at)iufro.org.
